Director of Planning

Salary up to £95k

Northumberland County Council is seeking to appoint an exceptional Planning professional as Director of Planning to lead and develop our planning service for our geographically diverse county. The postholder will have a focus on delivering economic growth, high quality development and excellent service delivery for the Planning function.

To lead our service you will need to have strong leadership capabilities, work corporately with both the Executive and Senior Team and elected members

We are looking for a skilled and creative planner with enthusiasm to lead and develop a team which will provide a first class planning service as part of the Council’s core functions.

The role of Director of Planning is to lead all aspects of the Local Plan Policy and Development Management processes, including managing a team of officers dealing with enforcement investigations, conservation matters and the validation of planning applications, as well as a direct involvement in dealing with applications.

Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team within Place Directorate within the Council this is an opportunity shape the direction of planning within Northumberland.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a significant level of experience and knowledge of all areas of planning and development as well as excellent leadership qualities. You will bring best practice to the regulatory processes of planning together with possessing an excellent strategic vision and a wider understanding of the Council’s ambitious priorities set out within our Corporate Plan.

 

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

Service Director: Adult Social Care and Commissioning

Salary: Up to £115k per annum

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Service Director for Adult Social Care and Commissioning to lead the development and delivery of our strategic vision for high quality adult social care within Northumberland.

As a qualified health or social care professional, the postholder will have significant experience within a local authority and specifically within the areas of adult social care, safeguarding and commissioning. This is a senior leadership post within the Council and you will ensure effective governance and operational service delivery of a wide range of integrated adult social care and safeguarding services for residents in Northumberland.

Working closely with health partners and other organisations at a strategic level, you will be responsible for delivery of our ambitions set out within the Council’s Corporate Plan and driving exceptional customer performance to our residents which enables them to live well and independently.

 

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL AND NORTHUMBRIA HEALTHCARE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

Head of Care Management (Adult Social Care)

Salary: £70-85k per annum

As Head of Service for Care Management you will oversee budgets, practice and performance in a number of key areas within an integrated adult social care management system, including responsibility for the management of the care management teams who support older people and individuals with learning/physical disabilities.

This is a varied and challenging role which carries responsibility for ensuring that the council meets its statutory responsibilities across a wide area of adult social care, including adult safeguarding.

The successful postholder will have a professional qualification in social work or a relevant health or social care discipline, in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and the broader social care and health agenda. You will have well-developed leadership skills and the ability to work in close partnership with a wide range of other organisations, as well as across the Council, are all essential requirements for this post.

Please note that the successful postholder may be appointed as a Northumberland County Council or Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust employee dependent upon their individual circumstances and will be discussed further at interview.

 

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

Head of Tourism and Leisure

Salary £59k - £75k per annum

The Council has recently recalibrated its contribution and offer to lead and promote Northumberland as a place where residents and visitors can “live, work and enjoy”.

A key part of this strategy is ensuring that we have a strong focus on developing and leading the Tourism & Leisure strategy for the county.

The successful postholder will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the Council’s ambitions of developing its corporate strategy, ensuring that there is a strong focus on tourism and leisure across Northumberland.

This is a new role within the Council and will be responsible for working in partnership with key stakeholders and colleagues in creating and developing the strategic direction and landscape for the development of tourism and leisure services across the county. Acting as Commissioner Client Lead for tourism and leisure related contractual management arrangements that are currently in place and to seek to develop new opportunities and funding support for tourism and leisure activities in partnership with organisations such as Active Northumberland will be a key requirement of the role.

The successful postholder will need to ensure that tourism and leisure activities are focused on promoting Northumberland as a proud and passionate county in what it has to offer to both residents and visitors.

 

ADVANCE NORTHUMBERLAND

Group Managing Director

Up to £125k

We are seeking a Group Managing Director to lead our newly established wholly owned subsidiary company of Northumberland County Council, Advance Northumberland which has been created following a number of changes to our wholly owned subsidiary structures.

The Group Managing Director will work alongside the Board of the company to develop and deliver the strategic direction and priorities which will be focused on enabling economic development, regeneration and housing market renewal throughout the County of Northumberland.

A key element of the role is to ensure that the goals, direction and the strategy of Advance Northumberland are aligned with the Corporate Plan and priorities of Northumberland County Council.

With a team of approximately 130 staff you will be responsible for the leadership, management and performance of the Group and its subsidiaries which is managed through an operating agreement with the Council.

The creation of new business and regeneration opportunities within Northumberland will be a key component of the role with a focus on developing key relationships with Council colleagues, government , business, leaders and organisations both on a local, regional and national basis.

Advance Northumberland will act on behalf of Northumberland County Council and other key partners to deliver regeneration schemes and attracting inward investment to the County.

With a £390 million asset portfolio, the postholder will be responsible for the management of those assets and also seeking to develop new opportunities across the county.
